--NEW FACULTY END-OF-TERM DINNER.   The members of the Faculty Development Committee invite all new faculty to join them at an end-of-term dinner on Friday evening, December 8.  If you haven't yet received an invitation, please call Dick Nordquist at ext. 5991.

--INTERNAL GRANTS.  All faculty who submitted proposals for this year's internal grant competitions (Research & Scholarship and Teaching & Learning) and for the Gignilliat Teaching Fellowship should have received results from Vice President Whitford by December 4.  If not, please contact Dick Nordquist at ext. 5991.   

--Faculty Forum in Solms 110 at 12:10 on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007: "Academic Dishonesty and Plagiarism."  Presented by AASU's Student Conduct Committee. 

--Advanced Academic Research LeaveAs announced by Dr. Wheeler in the spring 2006 issue of Armstrong Academics, Armstrong's 20-year-old policy on Advanced Academic Research Leave has been updated.  Details appear in Article IX, Section H of the Regulations section of the Faculty Handbook (pdf); they also appear here, linked to the Campus Resources on this web site. 

--Recipients of Teaching & Learning Grants: 2002-2006.

--NEW ADDITION to the TEACHING & LEARNING PAGE: "Short Readings on Big Issues."  Pithy articles on good teaching, grade inflation, and integrating work and life.  New articles will be added throughout the year.  

--BOCCE: Fall 2006 Team rosters have been posted; check back for round-by-round results of the Fall Tournament.

--A new, international, peer-reviewed, open access eJournal, entitled International Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning (IJ-SoTL) will be published by the Center for Excellence in Teaching at Georgia Southern University (Statesboro, Georgia) with the inaugural issue scheduled for January 2007.  "The deadline for submissions for the first issue is November 1, 2006.  People can join our international IJ-SoTL discussion list for any and all things connected with SoTL and the improvement of student learning at http://www.georgiasouthern.edu/ijsotl/dl.htm ."

The inaugural "The SoTL Commons: A Conference for the Scholarship of Teaching & Learning" will be held November 1 - 2, 2007 on the campus of Georgia Southern University. Keynote Speaker will be Dr. Mary Taylor Huber (Carnegie Academy for the Advancement of Teaching) and the Featured Speaker will be Dr. Robert Beichner (North Carolina State University). Early registration is underway and the submission of propoals starts on January 15, 2007. The conference web site is at www.georgiasouthern.edu/ijsotl/conference/.

--Congratulations to Dr. Judy Awong-Taylor, recipient of the 2006 Regents Teaching Excellence Award.

--Chronicle Careers Forums: Join colleagues around the country in discussions about work and life, keeping balance between the two, and finding a job: chronicle.com/forums?cs.   Copies of the print edition of The Chronicle of Higher Education are available in Lane Library and in the Teaching & Learning Center (Solms 209).

--First Friday Faculty Forums in 2006-2007
Forums are held from 12:15 to 1:15 in Solms 110 on the first Friday of the month.  All faculty and staff are welcome to attend.   The schedule for September 2006 through January 2007 has been posted.  

--Armstrong Academics and LatitudesAll faculty should have received copies of the August 2006 issue of Armstrong Academics and the first issue of Latitudes, AASU's new leadership journal.  If you have not received your copies--or would like additional copies--please notify Dick Nordquist at nordqudi@mail.armstrong.edu.

--AASU's Faculty Development web site is being revised and updated during the summer term.  The site will be fully refreshed by the second week in August.
